Today I would like to start with a comprehensive series. This winter we had an extraordinary amount of snow in many parts of Germany & Europe, even in the areas that are quickly accessible for me.
This kind of photography fascinates me mainly because of the balanced image effect. Usually one of the challenges of a landscape photographer is to balance the contrast between landscape (dark) and sky (bright). With a decent snow cover, that just falls away. In addition, disturbing ground elements are covered by the snow and one can shoot "clean" images, sometimes even monochrome shots.
And last but not least - if the sky is right - pastel-coloured landscape shots are possible, since snow reflects the sky colours and that’s simply beautiful.
I will show you the following series in order, each consisting of 23 images:
- view into the forest
- foggy moods
- details of winter
- shades of blue
- the day in the fens
- trees are alive!
- the art of freezing rain
- winterwonderland
Just a note in the context of the current situation: I did not go into any winter jams or crowds for these series. I took great care to go to places on days and times when I knew the places would be empty of people.
Only in one place I was not sure because the regulation was not very precise and I contacted both the regulatory office and the tourist information, who finally name a suitable day. On this day I met 2 people within 6 hours. I write this to show that one should not drive off carelessly and should inform oneself about the respective situation of the place.
And now I wish you a lot of fun with this first series, for which I focused mainly on perspectives in the forest, from the outside and inside 😉
