About the contest “Glanzlichter 2020”

Today I have an "interim message" 😉 I am very happy being honored at this year's "Glanzlichter der Naturfotografie 2020" in the "Nature as Art" category. This is an international nature photography competition, the largest contest held in Germany.

Exactly on this weekend the award ceremony would have taken place in the town hall of Fürstenfeldbruck - unfortunately it was canceled, understandably due to the current situation. It`s a pity, especially for the organizing committee, which has already put a lot of work into the presentation. After all, the winning pictures are usually exhibited in a kind of "roadshow" in museums, zoos, trade fairs and nature parks, which of course is hardly possible anymore.

Nevertheless I am very happy that the judging of the pictures took place and that one of my pictures made it. Christina and me discovered this rock on a hiking tour in Asturias, just a couple of days before participating the contest.

Even though it is not really difficult to capture these rocks it took a few attempts to create this picture. The first time it was quite dry, then the colors of the rocks fade out a little bit. The second time it was raining; good for the colours, but the wet "spots" were not harmonious. On the last day, there was spray mist during the night and the rocks were evenly moistened. In combination with the polarizing filter, the colors finally arrived on the display in the way they actually impressed in my eyes.

Stay healthy and many greetings,
Thomas
